SOUTH AFRICA IS A MULTICULTURAL COUNTRY.
Xenophobia is the dislike or hatred of people perceived to be foreigners In the past few years South Africa has experienced xenophobic attack, the violence began in Alexandra township when foreigners were attacked and the violence spread across the country. This whole drama has given rise to the hashtags  #SayNoToxenophobia the movement was initiated to stop the hatred and abuse of our fellow African brothers and sisters.

  5. The usage of social media platforms to convey messages of any kind is rapidly growing in South Africa. The use of social media will forever have its bad and good sides which are beyond us. Coming down to the Xenophonia issue is a bit tricky when it comes to the fact that it hurts to see fellow South Africans forcefully chase foreigners out of our land while those very same foreigners gave us shelter and land during apartheid when we went to exile..how and when did we lose our sense of humanity. What does this say about the Ubuntu that we so boldly preach? Then the other side of the coin is that this very same foreigners, namely Indians, Somalians and Parkistans are taking advantage of the poverty state here at home. They do as they please with our vulnerable sisters and daughters which is one of the things that provokes a Black man's anger. I am infuriated by this as a fellow daughter and sister to the our South African sisters who are being led astray by the money of an Indian man. We give them a finger then they take the whole hand. When did this foreigners become greedy at the cost of our sisters' education, womanhood, and independence?? It is both very sad and sickening. Thank you for your informative post, I learned from it

    1. Hi i agree with you that spirit of Ubuntu is needed and we should unity together from today going forward these situation must not repeat itself again in our country because we are one,and the fact of using social media for these hashtag i find it really helpful because it is quick to spread the news.true the foreigner do as they please with or vulnerable sisters but still that does not give us the right to burn and kill them because e think they are taking our jobs and wifes as South African.

  6. Social media has a lot of power. It makes it easier for organisations to interact with their stakeholders. #feesmustfall was an important hashtag for students because it kept students interacting and that made it easier to get information about what was happening about the protest. #saynotoxenophobia was an important hashtag in South Africa because it created awareness around the problem of xenophobia and people where able to talk about the issues around xenophobia.
